Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing practice that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. The word “Reiki” comes from two Japanese words: “Rei” meaning universal, and “Ki” meaning life energy. So Reiki means “universal life energy.”
It’s based on the idea that this life energy flows through all living things, and when it’s balanced and flowing freely, we feel healthy and vibrant. When it’s blocked or low, we can experience physical, emotional, or spiritual discomfort.
How does Reiki work?
A Reiki practitioner acts as a channel for this universal life energy. During a session, they place their hands lightly on or just above the recipient’s body in specific positions. What is Acupressure?
Acupressure is an ancient healing technique that comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It involves applying gentle pressure to specific points on the body, called acupoints, to stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities and restore balance.
These acupoints lie along pathways called meridians, through which life energy, or Qi (pronounced “chee”), flows. When this energy flow is blocked or unbalanced, it can cause pain, tension, or illness.
How does Acupressure work?
A practitioner uses their fingers, thumbs, or sometimes elbows and tools to press, massage, or tap these acupoints. By stimulating these points, acupressure helps to release blocked energy, improve circulation, and encourage the body to heal itself.
